Assigning Student Work

 ♥    ♥  ♥

After creating an interactivity with Classwork.com, you are now ready to assign it to your students. When assigning your worksheets, you have four delivery options to choose from.

How to Assign a Classwork.com Interactivity

Step 1: Go to your “Activities" Screen (this is the landing page upon logging in). Click on the worksheet you would like to assign to your students, or click on the check mark after hovering over the assignment.

Step 2: The "Activity Detail" screen will appear. Click on "Create an Assignment" button.

Step 3: The ‘Assign (1/3)’ screen will appear.

On this page you will be able to:

  • Change the Assignment Name

Note: The assignment name is public and will be visible to anyone working on the assignment

  • Choose the Delivery Option:

Classwork.com: this option generates a link that you can share with your students directly.  Your students just need to open the link and they will be able to complete the assignment, but scores will not be recorded back to those systems. *This does not require you to provide permission to access your Google Classroom classes and students.

Note:  You can click on the gray question marks to gain more information about how the assignment can be delivered.

  • Cancel Assigning the Worksheet

  • Go to the Next step

Step 4: The ‘Assign (2/3)’ screen will appear. Choose how you would like the student to sign in to the assignment.

  • When choosing Name or ID you can choose to:
    • You will be able to enter a list of names or IDs for your student to choose from
    • Create a custom prompt for your students to see

Step 5: The ‘Assign (3/3)’ screen will appear. Choose the settings for the assignment.

On this page you will be able to edit the time management and general settings of the assignment:

Time Management:

  • Enable Open Time: Enabling an open time allows you to set a date and time that the assignment will open for your students. If your students try to access this work before open time, they will receive a warning message that lets them know exactly when it will open.

  • Enable Close Time: Enabling a close time allows you to set the time that the assignment will become unavailable to your students. When that time passes, your students will no longer be able to open the assignment. If they working on it at the time, their work will be auto-saved and they see this message:

  • Enable Due Date: The due date in TeacherMade is not enforced the way Close Time is. Students will not lose access to the work after the due date. Instead, when they do submit their work, it will be marked as late in the Assignment Review.

  • Enable Time Limit:

Enabling a time limit in Classwork.com lets you set a timer for a particular assignment. The timer will begin when a student begins an assignment and will continue to run even if a student leaves the page or saves the work for later.

The timer is displayed in the top right corner of a student's work. When a student has less than 1 minute, the timer turns red. At the end of the time limit, the work is automatically submitted and students are able to review their work.

Reopening or resetting a student's submission will also restart the timer for that student's work.

General Settings:

  • Disable submit button: Use this to prevent accidental submissions by your students that require you to reopen their work. They can keep working in the submission until you mark it as completed. They will see a 'Save and Close' button instead of a 'Submit' button but clicking it will not close their submission.

  • Students can Check Answers: This setting determines how many times students may check answers before final submission of an assignment.

  • Minimum Score(%) to Submit: Use this optional setting to require a minimum score (as a percentage) to submit an assignment. If set, students will not be able to submit until they reach the minimum score you specify.

  • Display score as: This setting applies to both you and your student's views.

Note: You can change this setting at any time even after the assignment has been created.

  • After Submission: The scores shown when students turn in their work are from auto scored items only. If you have additional items that you are scoring these will not be show until you score and return the work.

  • When work is returned: When work is returned to a student the assignment will always be visible to that student. If you are concerned about student sharing, we suggest not returning any work until the assignment has been completed by all the student and all classes.

  • Copy and paste text: Choose whether students can copy and paste text in Open Answer, Short Answer, and Student Text boxes to prevent copying from sites like Wikipedia or ChatGPT.

  • Student tools: Text Boxes (create text boxes), Drawing (freehand draw), Links (insert links), Math (add math objects), Images (insert images), Audio (record audio), Speech to Text, Read Aloud (allow pieces of text to be read aloud).

Step 6: Upon clicking ‘Save’ the Classwork.com assignment will be created. The ‘Assignment Detail’ screen will open. This is where student results will appear once the students begin the assignment!

  • Your assignment will be "unlocked" for students to complete. If you "lock" the assignment by clicking the lock button it will prevent students from starting a new submission or doing additional work on open submissions.
  • On this screen you will also be able to:
    • View student submissions in real time
    • Preview your assignment
    • Edit answer key, title, and student names
    • Edit/Lock/Restore/Archive assignment
    • Sync with other programs
    • There will be two way to share your assignment:
      • A generated link to share with your students
      • Share with Microsoft Teams
      • An option to share to your Google Classroom

Note: The Google Classroom option will not support the syncing of scores due to students not signing in with a google account, if they do sign in with their google accounts, the syncing of scores should occur.
