How Do Students Circle an Answer in Classwork.com? |
Students can draw or annotate using the pencil tool, but anything drawn—such as circling an answer—cannot be autograded in Classwork.com. Because drawing is not part of the graded response, you will need to convert any “circle the answer” questions into autogradable Question Types.
Students Can Draw With the Pencil Tool, But It Is Not Autograded
Students can use the pencil tool to:
circle
underline
show work
annotate
mark up a passage
These markings appear in the Submission Review screen, but:
they are not autograded, and
they cannot be used as a scored answer
To make the question gradable, you will need to provide a way for students to select their answer instead of drawing it.
Converting “Circle the Answer” Into an Autogradable Question
If your PDF or worksheet tells students to circle an answer, you can recreate the question using one of these interactive, autogradable Question Types:
Multiple Choice
Use when there is one correct answer.
Multiselect
Use when there are two or more correct answers.
True/False
Use when students choose between two options.
Hot Text
Use when students click highlighted words or phrases.
Drop Zone
Use when students drag the correct answer onto a target area.
Hot Spot
Use only if you need students to click directly on a specific location in an image.
Most “circle the answer” questions can be recreated more easily with Multiple Choice, Multiselect, or Hot Text.
Updating the Directions Using Teacher Text (Important!)
If the uploaded PDF says “Circle the correct answer,” you will need to update the directions so they match the interactive Question Type you added.
To update the directions:
Insert a colored rectangle to cover the original printed instructions.
Add Teacher Text on top of the rectangle.
Rewrite the directions to reflect the digital version, such as:
“Select the correct answer.”
“Click the best choice.”
“Choose all that apply.”
This ensures the directions match the interactive version of the question.
