Creating an Activity |
Create Your First Activity in Classwork.com
This guide shows you how to create a new Classwork.com activity in a few minutes. You can upload a file (like a PDF), use AI Create to generate content, or start from a blank canvas.
- Visit https://www.classwork.com and click Login in the upper right.
- Enter your username and password, or select Sign In With Google if your account is set up for Google sign-in.
Create a new activity
After signing in, you will land on your Activities page. This is where you can view and organize all of your activities.
- Click the green + New File button.

A pop-up window will appear. Choose one of the following options:
- Upload a file and work with it (recommended for PDFs and existing worksheets)
- Use AI to make content (generate passages and questions)
- Create on a blank canvas (build from scratch)

If you choose to upload a file (like the attached Classwork.com Sampler), follow the steps below.
Upload a file and work with it
Use this option when you already have a PDF or worksheet and want to turn it into an interactive activity.
- In the pop-up window, click UPLOAD a file and work with it.
- Choose a file from your computer or Google Drive.
- You can also drag and drop a file onto the upload option to begin.
Choose your pages
Your file will process for a moment. Then you will choose which pages to include and how they should display.

- Select pages using the thumbnails.
- Selected pages will be checked and highlighted in blue.
- Click Submit to continue.
Use AI to make content
Use this option when you want Classwork.com to generate passages and questions for you.
- In the pop-up window, choose Use AI to Make Content (yellow square).

On the next screen, you will see five AI options. For this walkthrough, we will generate questions from standards.
The AI options include:
- Import content previously generated in an AI tool such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, LLaMA, or Grok, then paste it into Classwork using Import or Paste Content here.
- Generate reading passages or text using AI Create.
- Generate questions based on grade level and subject.
- Generate questions from a passage or text (pasted or generated with AI Create).
- Create questions based on grade level and learning standards.
Select Create Questions from Standards (bottom option).
If you are an international customer, Classwork.com recommends using Common Core State Standards. If you would like your regional standards added, email us at support@classwork.com.
Choose your standard
- Click Edit next to Learning Standards.
- Click Search Standards.
- Select your Course, Grade Level, and Standard.
- Click Save Changes.

Pick your question types
- Choose the question types you want (for example, Multiple Choice or Fill in the Blank).
- Set the number of questions (suggested: 4 for a quick warm-up).
- Click Generate Questions.

Review and edit questions
- Click Add Questions to add them to your activity.
Double-click any question to customize it.
Classwork.com will create your new activity and open the Activity Editor for you.
Create on a blank canvas
Use this option when you are starting from scratch. Clicking CREATE opens the Activity Editor where you can build your content using text, images, audio, video, and auto-scored questions.
This option is best for authored question types, including: Hot Text, Inline Choice, Inline Drag and Drop, Match Table Grid, Multiple Choice, MultiSelect, and Fill in the Blank.
Once you are in the Activity Editor, you can also use AI Create to generate passages and questions automatically, or paste in content created in ChatGPT or another tool.
Name your activity
After creating your activity, give it a title so you can find it later.
- Click the pencil next to Edit Activity: Untitled Activity.

- Enter the title of your activity.
- You have created a new activity.
Next steps
Choose the path that matches how you created your activity:
If you uploaded a file or created a blank canvas activity, you are ready to add interactive items: Adding Interactions.
If you used AI to generate questions, you are ready to assign the activity: Assign to Your Students.
