Can Students Make Corrections to Their Work After They’ve Submitted or Redo an Assignment?

Students cannot make changes to their work after submitting an Assignment — even if you return it to them.
To allow them to revise or retry, you’ll need to either Reopen or Reset their Submission.

  • Reopen – Keeps the student’s existing work so they can continue where they left off.
  • Reset – Clears the student’s Submission completely, allowing them to start over.

In both cases, your annotations and comments will be retained.

How to Reopen a Student’s Work

Once a student has submitted their work, you can reopen their Assignment to let them continue working. All of their previous responses will remain intact.

You can also choose to show students their missing or incorrect answers when you reopen the Assignment — helping them identify what they need to fix before resubmitting.

How to Allow Students to Check Their Answers Without Submitting

If you want students to check their progress as they work, you can enable the Students can Check Answers option when creating an Assignment. This setting lets them receive immediate feedback on specific questions before submitting.

You’ll find this option on the final step of creating an Assignment.

Available Options

NoStudents cannot check their work and must use the Submit button to turn their work in to you.
1x, 2x, 3xStudents can check their work 1, 2 or 3 times.
UnlimitedStudents can check and modify their work as often as they want. This is a great option for practice!
CustomYou can choose the number of times they can check.

Once this setting is active, students will see a Check My Answers button while working on the Assignment. Clicking it provides instant feedback on incorrect responses.

A counter and navigation arrows in the upper right corner help them move between questions that still need attention.

When students correct a question, the feedback will disappear until they click Check My Answers again.
