Using the Math Question Types

Use the Classwork.com math question types to draw short response areas on your Activity that are preformatted to accept numerical input.


This article covers the Number, Fraction, and Mixed Number question types.


After you click Insert on the toolbar (or click anywhere on your Activity to open the pop-up menu), you’ll see a list of question types under Math Types.



Once you select the desired math question type, click on your Activity and drag your mouse to draw the answer box.


Number Question Type

To edit a Number question, click Edit on the toolbar.



The Edit Number popup will appear.

Correct answer(s): Enter the number you want marked as correct. You can add up to 10 correct answers by clicking Add a correct answer and typing additional values.


Settings to allow input other than digits:

  • Allow commas: Permits commas in numbers (e.g., 1,000).

  • Allow minus / negative: Allows negative values.

  • Allow decimal: Enables decimal input.

  • Allow percent: Lets students include the percent (%) symbol.


Click Save Changes when finished.


Fraction Question Type

To edit a Fraction question, click Edit on the toolbar.



The Edit Fraction popup will appear.

Here you can set which answers will be accepted as correct when students complete the Assignment.

  • Type the correct answer(s) in fraction form.

  • Click Add correct answer to include alternate correct responses.

  • If you want to accept equivalent fractions, be sure to include all possible correct versions.

  • You can add up to 10 correct answer choices.


Click Save Changes when finished.


Mixed Number Question Type

To edit a Mixed Number question, click Edit on the toolbar.



The Edit Mixed Number popup will appear.

Use this window to define which responses will be marked correct for students.

  • Enter the correct answer(s) to the problem.

  • Click Add correct answer if you want to include multiple acceptable responses (up to 10).

  • Correct answers can be written as a mixed number, fraction, or whole number.

  • Check Allow mathematically equivalent answers to automatically accept reduced or simplified forms.

  • If you want students to simplify on their own, leave this box unchecked and only enter the simplest form of the correct answer.


Click Save Changes when you're finished.


Putting it all together

The Number, Fraction, and Mixed Number question types all behave similarly once you know where to find them. Try each one to see which works best for your Activity and your students’ needs.


Whether you’re collecting basic computation answers or checking fractional understanding, these math-specific tools help keep responses accurate, auto-gradable, and easy to review.
